International Peer Review

Overview

In order to promote various research of NARO, external evaluation on the research quality and direction of specific programs from international perspectives by overseas reviewers has been undertaken from the third medium-term research plan starting from 2011 to 2015.  In the international peer review process, experts and specialist in related research areas are invited as reviewers. During the review meeting, the reviewers read through the research project plans, listen to the research project leaders’ presentations and discuss the projects with them at the review meeting. After the meeting, the reviewers prepare a written review using the provided Peer Review Form. The reviewers assess the projects and select one of five action class judgment (S: high quality and no revision needed, A: good quality and minor revision needed, B: fair quality and moderate revision needed, C: fair quality and major revision needed, D: poor quality and a complete rewrite needed). The reviewers are encouraged to provide comments or suggestions for each of the research projects, together with an overall evaluation of the research program.

The International Peer Review meeting for the research program “Integrated management of soil fertility and plant nutrition for sustainable production” was held on September 3, 2014 for the following projects:

  • RP151a1: Soil management based on efficient use of nutrients in soil by using new methods
  • RP151a2: Rhizosphere technology for using nutrient dynamics in crop rotation in cold regions
  • RP151a3: Upland soil management in warm, high rainfall regions
  • RP151b0: Nutrient dynamics model and agricultural technologies for water quality conservation of watersheds
  • RP151c0: Assessment and management of soil biological fertility
  • RP151d0: Plant nutrition for efficient management of nutrients using metabolomic analysis and endophyte utilization
