Crop vocabulary and knowledge sack for computer reference

- Enable to track the crop information even if their name changes -

In order to promote data collaboration that crosses the barriers between the system, a Crop Vocabulary that can be referenced by computer was built. This Crop Vocabulary offers services such as providing agricultural chemical reference information for food crops, foreign language notation, support for collecting genetic information and contributes for promoting the usage of standard crop names recommended by the government.

Overview

The Research team within the consortium participated by National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, Tsukuba (President: Kazuo KYUMA) and the National Institute of Informatics (Director-General: Masaru Kitsuregawa) has jointly built a Crop Vocabulary that can be referenced by computer for promoting the data collaboration that crosses the barriers between the system.

Towards the realization of Society 5.0 in agriculture, it is required to build a smart food chain system that uses data across from production to consumption. However, at present circumstance, sharing of data could not progress as the data is managed individually for each system and there are also some inconsistencies such as same data with different names. Hence valuable big data such as farming information cannot be used effectively. The services developed based on the crop vocabulary are provision of agricultural chemical reference information for food crops, foreign language notation, support for collecting genetic information and contributes the promotion of standard crop names usage recommended by the government. In the future, Crop Vocabulary aims to contribute to data linkage on Agricultural Data Collaboration Platform (WAGRI).
