National Institute of Animal Health, NARO

Pathology Unit

We study the pathology and pathogenesis of important animal diseases. Our goals are to improve the diagnostic and control techniques of animal diseases. We investigate the pathology and pathogenesis of animal diseases by means of histopathology, immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology, and the ultrastructural pathology. Our specific research subjects are as follows:

  • Improvement of histopathological diagnostic methods on bovine neurotropic virus infection
  • Clarification of pathogenesis of porcine epidemic diarrhea by virus distribution analysis
  • Pathogenesis analysis and identification of worsening factors of porcine proliferative enteritis
  • Elucidation of pathogenesis of Newcastle disease virus infection of wild birds living around chicken houses and virus transmission efficacy
  • Pig model-based toxicity evaluation of the Fusarium mycotoxin

We collaborate with prefectural livestock hygiene service centers by using official diagnosis and email consultation, and contribute for accurate pathological diagnosis and better animal health.
