14. Evidence for Horizontal Transfer of SsuDAT1I Restriction-Modification System From Other Bacterium to Streptococcus suis

Japanese

We found that some strains of S. suis possessed a restriction-modification (R-M) system that was an isoschizomer of MboI, whereas other strains lacked this R-M system. Comparison of the DNA sequences of the R-M system and its flanking regions between different strains containing the R-M system and those lacking the system showed that the R-M system had been horizontally transferred from other bacterium and integrated into the S. suis genome by illegitimate recombination.
