02. Oocysts of Cryptosporidium inactivated by composting of animal feces

Japanese

Cryptosporidium oocyst, an agent of zoonotic diseases shed in the feces of livestock, are known to be resistant against many disinfectants. In this study, the oocyst were easily destroyed and sterilized by the heat generated in the process of animal feces composting. It is suggested that composting is an effective method to inactivate the oocyst with little environmental pollution. (Applied Epidemiology Section, Department of Epidemiology TEL +81-298-38-7769)
