10. A nucleotide sequence analysis of a streptomycin-sulfonamide resistance plasmid, pMS260, from Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae

A complete nucleotide sequence of an Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae streptomycin-sulfonamide plasmid, pMS260 (8124-bp), has been determined. An analysis of the sequence revealed that pMS260 belongs to the IncQ1-γ subgroup. A 17-bp nucleotide sequence, which has the potential to acquire a gene for chloramphenicol resistance by homologous recombination, was found between the sulfonamide- and streptomycin-resistance genes of pMS260. pMS260 may therefore become a three drug (streptomycin-sulfonamide-chloramphenicol) resistance plasmid.
