24. Rice grains infected with kernel smut rice had no adverse effects on mice after 28 days of repeated administration

Japanese

The feeding effect of rice grain infected with kernel smut of rice on ICR mice after 28 days of repeated administration. No significant difference was observed in body weight between the group that was administered the infected rice and the control group. Measurements of body weight, as well as blood biochemistry and histopathology analysis, revealed no adverse effects caused by feeding of the infected rice grains. DNA microarray analysis of the liver genes revealed little change in their expression. Our results suggest that the effect of rice grain infected with kernel smut of rice was minor.
