植物機能制御ユニット

役割

植物に病原菌が感染すると、植物は抵抗性を高めることで感染を阻止しようとします。一方で病原菌も植物の抵抗性に対抗して様々な手段を使って生き残り、感染を広げようとします。本ユニットではこのような植物及び病原菌の機能を解明し制御することにより、作物を病害抵抗性にすることを目指した研究を行っています。

主な研究テーマ

イネの病害抵抗性機構の解析と抵抗性作物の作出

いもち病、白葉枯病、紋枯病、籾枯細菌病等はイネの代表的な病気で、国内的にも国際的にも問題になっています。本ユニットではこれらの病害に対するイネの抵抗性遺伝子を単離・解析し、抵抗性機構を解明する研究を行っています。一方で同定した遺伝子や解明した抵抗性機構に基づき、イネやそれ以外の作物の病害抵抗性を強化する研究も行っています。

病原菌のイネへの感染機構の解析

いもち病菌はイネやコムギ等に甚大な被害をもたらす糸状菌です。いもち病菌がどのようにイネの抵抗性機構を回避してイネの細胞内に侵入し、増殖するのか。その感染機構を解明し、より効果的な病害防除法の開発に役立てるための研究を行っています。これまでの研究から、感染を促進する低分子化合物や分泌タンパク質が見つかっています。また、感染過程をリアルタイムで蛍光観察する研究も行っています。

ダイズの病害抵抗性遺伝子の単離・同定

ダイズの生産現場では、茎疫病や黒根腐病等の立枯性病害による収量や品質の低下が大きな問題となっていますが、有効な防除法が殆どなく、これらの病害に抵抗性を持つ実用品種の育成が求められています。そこで本ユニットでは、立枯性病害に抵抗性を持つ品種の作出を加速化するために、茎疫病や黒根腐病に対して抵抗性を持つ遺伝資源を利用して、病害抵抗性遺伝子の単離や、抵抗性遺伝子の作用機構の解明を行っています。将来的にダイズの収量性向上や安定生産、さらには低コスト・省力栽培に貢献することを目指します。
