The National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences (NIAS) will be holding an International Genetic Resources Workshop on the genus Oryza between 24-26 September 2003 in Tsukuba, Japan.
Last year (2002) the rice genome sequencing was completed and now new horizons are open to rice researchers. One of these areas is the diversity of the genus Oryza that is a useful source of genes for rice improvement.
Consequently the NIAS will hold an international workshop on the topic of the genus Oryza with the objective of discussing recent advances in our understanding of this topic. It is hoped that the workshop will encourage international cooperation and research ideas in the light of newly available rice genome information.
Sincerely yours,
Taro Obata, Head of the Organizing Committee
