The theme of NARO Summer Open Day 2018 is "Science of Food and Agriculture, Let's Feel the Beat!" There will be lots of tips and ideas that will help schoolchildren in preparing their homework during the summer vacation. And various activities and events designed for both parents and children to enjoy. In addition, there will be a special exhibition of the history of modern agriculture including an illustration of silkworm anatomy from the Meiji period about 150 years ago. We will provide latest information about the planning content in this page.

Tsukuba Chibikko Hakase 2018

The Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences, NARO (NIAES) is organizing the following programs and events in conjunction with the Tsukuba Chibikko Hakase 2018: (1) Insect collection class, (2) Summer Open Day, (3) Let's look under the soil surface, (4) Soil and Insect Inventory Exhibition. Tsukuba Chibikko Hakase is a stamp-collecting rally where children visit research institutions, experience exhibitions and various events in each institute, and have a special passport stamped. The special passport is distributed by the Tsukuba City office. Check here for more details.

Access

From Tsukuba Express, Midorino station

Take a Kanto Tetsudo "Norin danchi junkan" bus (the bus ride takes about 15 minutes). Note: These buses do not run on weekends or holidays. The nearest bus stop is "Norin Danchi chuo", which is a 5 minute walk from the Hall.

From Tsukuba Express, Tsukuba station

Take a TSUKU-bus "Southern shuttle" bound for "Kukizaki Rojin Fukushi Center" (the bus ride takes about 20 minutes).The nearest bus stop is "Norin Danchi chuo", which is a 5 minute walk from the Hall.

From JR Joban Line, Ushiku station

Take a Kanto Tetsudo bus bound for "Yatabe Shako," "Seibutsuken Owashi Campus" or "Daigaku Byoin" (the bus ride takes about 20 minutes).The nearest bus stop is "Norin Danchi chuo", which is a 5 minute walk from the Hall.

Notice for Visitors

  • As it is the peak of summer, please bring drinks and make sure to take all measures to prevent suffering from heat stroke.
  • The NARO cafeteria is closed on that day and there are no shops and stalls selling food or bento.
  • In case of emergency, please check the guide map you will receive at the reception.
  • Please be forewarned that there is a possibility that mass media people may be around to do interviews.
