Message from the Director

Director, Bio-oriented Technology Research Advancement Institution

The predecessor of Bio-oriented Technology Research Advancement Institution (BRAIN, NARO) was the Bio-oriented Technology Research Promotion Organization, founded in 1986 as a legally approved corporation, inheriting whole properties and activities of the previous governmental corporation "Institute of Agricultural Machinery (IAM)" and integrating a new research grant program. Bio-oriented Technology Research Promotion Organization was integrated with National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) (2003) and then with three corporations including NARO and National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences in April 2016, when it was reorganized to the current organization, BRAIN, separated from the agricultural machinery program and specializing in the research grant program.

To date, we have supported the research and developments conducted by researchers at institutions of private sector companies, universities, and public sectors consistently at all the stages from basic to practical application through various research grant programs. Recently, in particular, we focused our efforts on providing support for various research projects, such as those that contribute to the creation of new industries by applying fully innovative technologies in different fields with breakthrough progress in technology for the agricultural, forestry and fisheries industry as well as the food industry; research projects supported by matching funds, aiming to promote collaboration among companies, universities, and public sector institutes to bring about technological innovation through open innovation initiatives; research projects that demonstrate innovative technologies at production sites with the participation of agricultural and fisheries management entities; and leading research projects that have the potential to create next-generation technology systems integrating AI/IoT/RT technologies.

BRAIN's mission is to contribute to advancing a wide range of bio-oriented technologies, including those in the agricultural, forestry and fisheries industry as well as the food industry. We will continue to support research projects and developments in these fields by steadily and appropriately proceeding with our research fund programs as a policy implementation institution. We appreciate your continued understanding and cooperation.
