植物が生産する生理活性物質に着目し、それらの単離・構造決定および周辺の生物に与える影響を研究しています。
- 特定のマメ科植物が生産するシアナミドが果たしている生理学的・生態学的役割および生合成経路の解明に取り組んでいます。この化合物は最古の合成肥料成分として知られていますが、最近まで自然界でも作られているとは考えられていなかったため、これからの研究で明らかにすべきことが数多く残されています。
- テントウムシは農業害虫であるアブラムシを捕食する益虫であり、農地周辺の環境でも雑草や樹木に寄生するアブラムシを餌としています。一方、アブラムシは、その種類や寄主植物の種類によって、テントウムシに対する餌としての適性が大きく異なります。現在、その化学的機構の解明に取り組んでいます。
