World Crop FACE Workshop 2012
— Satellite Meeting of MARCO symposium 2012—
July 9-12, 2012, Tsukuba, Japan

Scope and objectives

Free-Air CO2 enrichment (FACE) experiment in the agricultural fields provides us with a unique experimental platform for the global change studies. Currently, however, there are only six large-scale FACE experiments on agricultural crops running in the world, despite our major challenges to feed the population that is projected to reach 9 billion before 2050. Atmospheric CO2 concentration is expected to rise all around the world, but the magnitude of the effects on agriculture will depend on various factors including climate, crops, soil and agricultural practices, so that tighter collaborations are urgently needed amongst crop FACEs. The World Crop FACE Workshop 2012 is going to be the first opportunity for all the active crop FACE groups to get together. In the workshop, participants are expected to introduce their results and discuss about future collaboration. This workshop is held as a satellite meeting of the MARCO ( ) symposium 2012.
